Ida Floreak is a painter living in New Orleans, LA. Her work deals with ecological anxieties paired with reverence for the natural world. Humanity is an ancient and vital part of the planets ecology - our belief systems and rituals are an integral facet of nature. Drawing from a classical tradition with influences in the Italian Renaissance and medieval reliquaries, she examines the importance of acknowledging a world and systems greater than oneself, and finding the sacred in the smallest artifacts of nature.

Individually wrapped in protective sleeves and backed with chipboard. Soft Decay explores the function of fungi as an organic internet and the extended intelligence of the natural world. Inspired by research findings that indicate that fungi is the solution to the current plastic crisis, Soft Decay reclaims decomposition from the realm of the abject, repositioning it as a technology of care and nurturing. Influenced by an anthropomorphic and animist perspective on both man-made and organic entities, Soft Decay represents embracing impermanence and finding beauty and meaning in loss, asserting that the natural world is a benevolent caregiver that will help us rectify our ecological mistakes.

Pippin Frisbie Calder is a printmaker based in New Orleans

“My work seeks to investigate ecosystems and demystify scientific outcomes, while calling into question human culpability and responsibility. Working with Microbiologists, Ornithologists and Biologists I create large-scale installations and prints exploring issues of climate change, species extinction and environmental stewardship. The materiality of printmaking reverses its subject and injects personality into every mark, transforming my drafting in different ways depending on the use of wood, collagraph or screen. The specificity of science requires reimagining my print practice and changes my methodology in service to ornithology, or ecology. The work I am happiest with always finds a balance between printmaking, science and draftsmanship, unifying to tell big picture stories about humanity's complicated relationship with nature.”
